Beyond the Horizon – Solo Exhibition

I have a solo exhibition coming up called ‘Beyond the Horizon’ that will be on display at the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound, Ontario from DECEMBER 5th- FEBRUARY 11th.
It is located at 251 9th Street East (Owen Sound) and hours are Monday-Saturday 11:30 am – 5:30 pm. The gallery is also open on performance nights.

The recent “Beyond the Horizon” series comes from my endless exploration of the relationship between sky and land. The horizon suggests there is more to see beyond what we recognize.  It adds balance between elements in constant motion.
Whether through a simplistic line or silhouette of the landscape, it stabilizes the vastness and ephemeral state of the sky.

Opening reception is on Saturday, December 17th from 5:30-6:30 pm.

Fall Colours

It’s hard not to be inspired by the fall colours this time of year…or perhaps I always tend to go towards this palette in most of my paintings.

Dancing Clouds

Here is another new painting that came from an evening drive. I saw some amazing colours and movement that night. It seemed to me that the clouds were dancing, such an experience to see the changes of colour and textures against the water. It was something I had to capture, and when I see this painting I get that sense of movement all over again. Hope you enjoy!

Spring Inspirations

 

With all the snow finally gone and warmer weather approaching, it has been inspiring me to create images that have been anxiously wanting to appear.  I started 3 new paintings, and this is the first one I finished. This palette seems to always appear. I can’t help but be drawn to these warm colours. The others are still in the process of being finished, but for now please enjoy the first glimpse of my spring inspirations!

Back to Basics

Well after the many attempts of new paintings within the past couple of weeks, I had the urge to paint a landscape. I haven’t made a “traditional” landscape painting since the beginning of art school (so about 5 years ago) and thought why not give it a shot. I forgot the challenge painting scenery can be for me. I am bringing back some skills of mixing colours, perspectives and shadows and have remembered the joy and the satisfying feeling I get from it.

Perhaps this is a new journey for my art. I am fortunate to live in a beautiful area full of inspiring scenery that I should showcase. I can see some areas that need to be improved in this painting, however, after a 5 year break from painting landscapes like this, I don’t think it looks that bad!
